Portrait Location Ideas (Inside and Out) around NJ!

by Edith Levandoski on 03-26-2012 in Everything Else

I wanted to create this as a reference for my families and couples who are looking for great portrait locations around New Jersey. I’ll do another post in a few weeks for PA, NY, & CT…so stay tuned for that one!

Here’s Edith L Photography’s list of best places for portrait shoots in New Jersey!

1. New Jersey Botanical Gardens, Ringwood, NJ

This is a great spot for my couples who are doing engagement shots because of the beautiful gardens and ornate architecture you’ll find here. Every nook and crannie here is totally unique. Families can get great shots out of this locale too because there’s tons of places for the little ones to explore!

2. Lambert Castle, Paterson, NJ

This is another very popular and well known place for engagement pictures. You can do indoor or outdoor pictures here. There is a site fee for doing indoor photos, so make sure you know to include that in your session fee. The interior also offers a great backdrop for those who love old world architecture. The grounds are not as spectacular as the ones from NJ Botanical Gardens, however.

3. Verona Park, Verona, NJ

This is one of the nicest “city” parks in NJ. Great place for any type of photo shoot! There are bridges, a nice large pond, walkways…everything you would want in a park. Great background scenery. I highly recommend this place to my clients!

4. Lambertville, NJ

For those who want some artsy and trendy pictures, this is a great place to shoot your portraits! There’s so many coffee shops, boutiques, interior design stores…the possibilities are endless for photo-ops. There’s a bridge that connects NJ to PA which would be great for pictures!

5. Princeton, NJ (around campus and main streets)

Princeton is wonderful for engagement shoots. If you want that old world look and tons of little places to sit and grass to lie on…this town is amazing. Your pictures will look more like a work of art than a photo:)

6. Island Beach State Park, Seaside Park, NJ

For families or couples…IBSP is one of NJ’s last untouched beaches. It is a natural beach. Each day you come back the beach looks completely different. Depending on the season, the beach is filled with seashells and little sea creatures. It offers a beautiful back drop and the best part is…you can bring your furry friend with you at any time of the year!

7. Asbury Park, NJ (along boardwalk and main streets)

Asbury Park is great for the more artistic and edgier couples who want something funky in their pictures. We have plenty of boardwalk to roam as well as the main streets. We even have the beach for those who are adventurous enough to go in :)

8. Edgewater, NJ

For the couples who love the New York City skyline and want a more sophisticated and modern photo shoot, I highly recommend Edgewater. Best time to go would be an hour before sunset so we can get great lighting!

9. Fairleigh Dickinson University-Madison Campus (inside and outside the gardens)

This is my alma-mater. The mansion was Cornelius Vanderbilt’s summer home. It has lush gardens and beautiful fountains. There is a site fee for shooting indoors…but the ballroom of the mansion is a beautiful site.

10. Newport, Jersey City, NJ (around town)

Another great location for couples that want a more sophisticated and modern shoot! There are bars, museums, a waterfront, the Hudson Mall…a lot of great places to shoot some creative and different types of pics!

11. Red Bank, NJ (around town)

Red Bank is a quaint town with lots of “shore” history. I would recommend this location to families and couples looking for a more beachy type of shoot. A great place to visit in the spring, too.

12. Hoboken Train Station (indoors)

Talk about creative indoor shooting locations, this has got to be one of my favorite spots.  Another option would also be Grand Central Station in NY. Engaged couples…definitely check this out for your shoot!

13. Eagle Rock Reservation, West Orange, NJ

This location is easy to get to and offers a beautiful view of New York City, too.  It has more of a nature type of feel than Edgewater which is more of the NYC Skyline in a city environment. Many wedding pictures are taken at this location.

14. Cape May, NJ

Quaint, Victorian, full of history…Cape May is my favorite town in all of New Jersey. Families and couples will get great memories out of this location. We can shoot at the beach, at the steps of an Inn, at a coffee shop…possibilities are endless.

15. Belmar Beach, Belmar, NJ

Another beautiful Jersey Shore photo spot!

16. Steven’s Institute of Technology, Hoboken, NJ

This location is a wonderful place for the NYC skyline as well as parks and benches.
